ในโลกอุตสาหกรรมยุคใหม่ “สารหล่อลื่น” ไม่ได้ทำหน้าที่เพียงลดแรงเสียดทานระหว่างผิวสัมผัสของเครื่องจักรเท่านั้น แต่ยังกลายเป็นตัวชี้วัดสำคัญของความยั่งยืนและการดำเนินธุรกิจอย่างรับผิดชอบ ภายใต้กระแสการเปลี่ยนผ่านสู่โมเดลเศรษฐกิจ BCG (Bio-Circular-Green Economy) ที่ได้รับความสำคัญในระดับโลก อุตสาหกรรมสารหล่อลื่นซึ่งเดิมพึ่งพาวัตถุดิบจากทรัพยากรฟอสซิลเป็นหลักจึงกำลังเผชิญจุดเปลี่ยนสำคัญในการพัฒนาเทคโนโลยีและผลิตภัณฑ์ที่เป็นมิตรต่อสิ่งแวดล้อม นวัตกรรม “PALMGREASE” จาระบีชีวภาพจากน้ำมันปาล์มของไทย จึงถูกพัฒนาขึ้นในฐานะทางเลือกใหม่ที่ยกระดับน้ำมันปาล์มจากพืชเศรษฐกิจสำคัญของประเทศสู่ผลิตภัณฑ์อุตสาหกรรมมูลค่าสูง พร้อมตอบโจทย์ทั้งด้านสมรรถนะของสารหล่อลื่นและเป้าหมายความยั่งยืนในระดับสากล จากปาล์มน้ำมันสู่จาระบีชีวภาพ: ศูนย์เทคโนโลยีพลังงานแห่งชาติ (ENTEC) สวทช. ได้ดำเนินการวิจัยและพัฒนาเทคโนโลยีการผลิตจาระบีชีวภาพ (Bio-based grease) จากน้ำมันปาล์มของไทยให้มีสมรรถนะเทียบเท่าจาระบีเชิงพาณิชย์ การพัฒนานี้ไม่ใช่เพียงนำน้ำมันพืชมาผสมเป็นสารหล่อลื่น แต่เป็นการบูรณาการองค์ความรู้ในการออกแบบสูตรและโครงสร้างของจาระบี เพื่อให้ได้ผลิตภัณฑ์ที่มีสมรรถนะการหล่อลื่นสูง มีความเสถียรทางเคมี และเหมาะสมต่อการใช้งานในสภาวะอุตสาหกรรม พร้อมคุณสมบัติการย่อยสลายได้ตามธรรมชาติ ช่วยลดผลกระทบต่อสิ่งแวดล้อม และสอดคล้องกับแนวทางอุตสาหกรรมยุคใหม่ที่มุ่งลดการปล่อยคาร์บอน (Carbon Footprint) อย่างเป็นรูปธรรม ความสำคัญของจาระบีในอุตสาหกรรม: จาระบีเป็นสารหล่อลื่นสำคัญที่ช่วยให้เครื่องจักรทำงานได้อย่างราบรื่น ตั้งแต่เครื่องจักรกลเกษตร เครื่องจักรก่อสร้าง ไปจนถึงระบบกลไกในโครงสร้างพื้นฐานต่าง ๆ อย่างไรก็ตาม จาระบีส่วนใหญ่ในปัจจุบันผลิตจากน้ำมันแร่ (Mineral oil) ซึ่งเป็นทรัพยากรจากฟอสซิลที่มีจำกัด และมีคุณสมบัติย่อยสลายได้ยาก (Non-biodegradable) เมื่อเกิดการรั่วไหลระหว่างการใช้งาน สารหล่อลื่นเหล่านี้อาจตกค้างในดินหรือแหล่งน้ำเป็นเวลานานและส่งผลกระทบต่อระบบนิเวศ ขณะเดียวกัน ประเทศไทยยังต้องพึ่งพาการนำเข้าน้ำมันหล่อลื่นพื้นฐานจากต่างประเทศ ทำให้ภาคอุตสาหกรรมต้องเผชิญความเสี่ยงจากความผันผวนของราคาพลังงานโลกและอัตราแลกเปลี่ยน รวมถึงแนวโน้มมาตรฐานการค้าระดับสากลที่ให้ความสำคัญกับความยั่งยืน เช่น แนวทาง
