The National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), under the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), in collaboration with the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), has broadened the deployment of “EnPAT,” a safe and sustainable product derived from Thai palm oil by installing transformers filled with EnPAT in Na Thung Subdistrict, Mueang Chumphon District, Chumphon Province. The installation was carried out under the supervision of the PEA Chumphon branch, and was honored by the presence of Mr. Patcharat Patcharaweerarat, Deputy Manager (Technical), Acting Manager of the Provincial Electricity Authority, Mueang Chumphon Branch, who oversaw the implementation of this transformer installation.
The installation of transformers using EnPAT oil in Chumphon marks a significant step in applying biotechnology from oil palm in the southern region of Thailand. Chumphon, in particular, presents challenging environmental conditions, including high rainfall year-round and exposure to sea mist, which contributes to the corrosion of electrical equipment.
EnPAT is an innovative bio-based transformer oil developed from Thai oil palm, engineered to perform reliably in diverse environmental conditions. Its deployment in Chumphon serves not only a test of the product’s durability in a high-humidity, coastal environment, but also as a means of directly supporting to local oil palm producers, as Chumphon is one of Thailand’s major oil palm cultivation regions.
The deployment of EnPAT plays a crucial role in adding value to Thailand’s oil palm production by transforming it into a high-value bio-based product that supports the oleochemical industry. It helps reduce reliance on imported petroleum-based transformer oils, strengthens long-term energy security, and channels income back to agricultural communities. This initiative aligns closely with Thailand’s sustainable economic development goals.
Mr. Patcharat Patcharaweerarat, Deputy Manager (Technical) of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), Chumphon Province, gave an interview during the installation of an EnPAT-filled transformer in Chumphon Province on October 7, 2025.
The Provincial Electricity Authority of Chumphon Province is pleased to take part in introducing the EnPAT transformer for use in the province, which is well known for its agricultural strength—particularly in palm oil—as well as for its eco-tourism attractions. Both sectors rely heavily on a stable and environmentally friendly energy infrastructure.
The implementation of EnPAT in Chumphon’s power distribution system not only represents the first application in the southern region but also marks the beginning of a power network development that supports the way of life of Chumphon residents in terms of economy, safety, and environmental conservation. Chumphon, a coastal province on the Gulf of Thailand, will greatly benefit from this initiative.
EnPAT possesses excellent properties—being difficult to ignite and biodegradable—which enhance safety for tourists visiting Chumphon while significantly reducing environmental impacts. In the unlikely event of leakage, the bio-based transformer oil will not harm ecosystems as petroleum-based oils do. The PEA Chumphon stands ready to support the adoption of bio-transformer oil technology derived from Thai palm oil to help preserve natural resources for future generations.
