2026.10.15 ENTEC, NSTDA Highlights the Importance of Early Nuclear Fuel Supply Planning for Thailand’s First SMR Project at IAEA Conference

On 15 October 2026, at Vienna, Austria

The National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), was represented by Dr. Kampanart Silva, Researcher in the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Research Team, joined “Panel IV: Strengthening the Nuclear Fuel Supply Chain: Ensuring Resilience of the Nuclear Fuel Supply Chain through Collaboration,” at the International Conference on Fuel Supply Chain for Sustainable Nuclear Power Development, organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria, from 13–15 October 2026.

Sharing a newcomer country’s perspective, Dr. Kampanart emphasized that nuclear fuel supply planning should be considered from the outset, alongside technology, equipment, and component procurement for the country’s first Small Modular Reactor (SMR) project. Many SMR designs require specialized fuel, with only a limited number of potential suppliers, making early planning essential to long-term fuel supply security.

He also noted that international collaboration is a key to strengthen a resilient nuclear fuel supply chain, particularly for countries embarking on nuclear power development for the first time. Such collaboration can help address supply challenges and support long-term planning for sustainable nuclear power development.
