2025.05.26 ENTEC, NSTDA Presents Strategies for Advancing Renewable Energy at the “Vision 2030 for Renewable Energy Deployment in Thailand Workshop” Organized by the CASE Project and TGC-EMC

On May 26, 2025, at Eastin Grand Hotel, Phayathai, Bangkok

The National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC) of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), represented by Dr. Pimpa Limthongkul, Director of the Energy Innovation Research Group, was invited as a speaker at the “Vision 2030 for Renewable Energy Deployment in Thailand” workshop. Dr. Pimpa’s presentation focused on the topic “Near-term Opportunities for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).”

During her session, Dr. Pimpa outlined strategies for utilizing BESS to enhance grid stability during peak demand periods (on-peak) and emphasized the importance of integrating energy storage systems with the grid, both in the short and long term. She also highlighted key investment opportunities in this area.

The workshop, organized by GIZ through the Clean, Affordable, and Secure Energy for Southeast Asia (CASE) project and the Thai-German Cooperation on Energy, Mobility, and Climate (TGC-EMC) project, provided a platform for exchanging insights on increasing the share of renewable energy, strengthening energy security, and supporting Thailand’s carbon neutrality goals within the electricity sector. Additionally, it offered a forum for discussing important policy recommendations for Thailand’s energy transition.

Experts, researchers, and policymakers came together at the event to share perspectives on developing renewable energy in Thailand by 2030. The workshop also presented the latest data from the International Energy Agency (IEA), which revealed that fossil fuel usage in Southeast Asia remains over 70%. However, with accelerated investments in renewable energy technologies such as Variable Renewable Energy (VRE) and Energy Storage Systems (ESS), this share is projected to fall to less than 10% by 2050.
