ENTEC and NECTEC, in collaboration with Kaneka Corporation, Japan, to inaugurate Thailand’s pioneering initiative: the “Building-Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) Evaluation Facility.”

On March 20, 2024, the 1st floor hall of Tower C, Innovation Group Building 2, Thailand Science Park, the National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC) and the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), under the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), in collaboration with Kaneka Corporation, Japan, to inaugurate Thailand’s pioneering initiative: the “Building-Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) Evaluation Facility.” Positioned at Thailand Science Park, NSTDA. This groundbreaking venture represents a collaborative effort with partners such as TAISEI Corporation from Japan and Solartron Public Company Limited.

The ceremony was graced by Professor Dr. Sukit Limpijumnong, President of NSTDA, who underscored the significance of this endeavor in advancing clean energy innovation to align with the country’s BCG Economy policy.

Within the event, Dr. Lily Eurwilaichitr, Assistant Director of ENTEC, offered insights into the project’s background and objectives, emphasizing its importance in revolutionizing solar panel integration with buildings. Dr. Lily also engaged with the media alongside Dr. Kobsak Sriprapa, a researcher from NECTEC, and Dr. Peerawut Chinworarungsi, a researcher from ENTEC

The primary goal of this project is to explore and evaluate the electricity generation potential of BIPV systems, a departure from traditional rooftop installations. By seamlessly integrating solar cells into architectural designs, such as house walls and building facades, the project aims to compare the performance of solar cells in BIPV system. This approach marks a significant advancement in solar energy utilization, providing valuable insights to inform the effective design of BIPV systems tailored for Thailand’s unique environment and needs.
