The National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), participated in a panel discussion and organized an “FAQ Workshop on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)” as part of the 3rd nationwide program to build understanding of SMR power plant development among provincial energy officials.
The event was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), Department of Nuclear Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, and Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (Public Organization) (TINT). ENTEC was represented by Dr. Nuwong Chollacoop, Acting Deputy Executive Director, Dr. Kampanart Silva, Researcher, and Mr. Pidpong Janta, Research Assistant, from the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Research Team, Low-Carbon Energy Research Group.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Komol Buakate, Inspector General of the Ministry of Energy, together with Mr. Chaiyot Tangvorakulchai, Assistant Governor for Sustainability Management, EGAT, Rungrueng Kitphati, MD, FETP, Secretary General of the Office of Atoms for Peace, as well as executives, speakers, experts, and representatives from partner organizations and provincial energy offices across northeastern Thailand, with more than 50 participants attending.
The workshop aimed to enhance knowledge and understanding of SMR technology, which is considered a potential energy option for strengthening electricity system security and supporting Thailand’s long-term development.
As part of the event, Dr. Kampanart Silva, Researcher at ENTEC, was invited to serve as the moderator of the panel discussion, “Thailand’s Energy Policy and Direction and the Role of SMR Technology in the Country’s Power Development Plan (PDP).” The discussion featured senior representatives from the Ministry of Energy, EGAT, and the OAP, who shared perspectives on Thailand’s energy policy and the potential role of SMRs in the country’s future power generation mix.
