2026.01.28 Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning Honors ENTEC Researcher for Contribution to Investigation of New State Audit Office of the Kingdom of Thailand Building Collapse

On 28 January 2026, the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning held a ceremony to present plaques of recognition to organizations and experts who supported the fact-finding investigation into the collapse of the new Office of the State Audit Office (SAO) building, which was under construction at the time of the incident. The collapse resulted from severe seismic vibrations caused by a major earthquake on 28 March 2025. The ceremony was presided over by senior executives of the Department at the Narisaranusorn Meeting Room, Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning.

On this occasion, Dr. Supaporn Wansom, a researcher from the Clean Fuel and Advanced Chemistry Research Team, Low Carbon Energy Research Group, National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), received a plaque of recognition as a member of the Construction Materials Quality Inspection Task Force. This task force is one of six working committees under the official investigation panel into the SAO building collapse. The research team applied its expertise in advanced materials analysis, in-depth chemical and physical property testing, and analytical inspection techniques to assess the quality and standards compliance of construction materials related to the building’s structural components. The work aimed to evaluate factors that may have affected the structural strength and resilience of the building under seismic conditions.

This recognition reflects ENTEC’s role in applying scientific and technological expertise to address critical national challenges and underscores the importance of collaboration between government agencies and research institutions in advancing engineering safety and standards in Thailand in a sustainable manner.
