2025.09.12 NSTDA and University of Phayao Sign MoU to Develop EV Technologies and Human Resources in Support of “MHESI for EV” Policy

On September 12, 2025, at Thailand Science Park,

The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), represented by Dr. Sumittra Charojrochkul, Executive Director of the National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), NSTDA, and the University of Phayao, represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supakorn Pongsapangpho, President of the University of Phayao, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development of electric vehicle (EV) technologies and human resource development.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Dr. Chi-na Benyajati, Director of the Material Processing and Manufacturing Automation Research Group at the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), NSTDA, and Asst. Prof. Suwit Panyawong, Vice President for Environment and Landscape at the University of Phayao.

This collaboration underscores both institutions’ shared commitment to advancing electric vehicle technology and cultivating skilled professionals in alignment with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation’s (MHESI) “MHESI for EV” initiative. The policy comprises three key pillars:

  1. EV-HRD – Human resource development, focusing on upskilling individuals from undergraduate level and beyond;
  2. EV-Transformation – Promoting the adoption of electric vehicles and supporting infrastructure;
  3. EV-Innovation – Encouraging research and innovation to enhance the competitiveness of Thai entrepreneurs.

Beyond technical advancement, the partnership is aimed at strengthening the country’s capabilities across economic, environmental, energy, and social dimensions, contributing toward a more sustainable future for Thailand.

As part of the visit, the executive team from the University of Phayao toured several cutting-edge research laboratories at NSTDA, including the Industrial Product and Power Electronics Research Laboratory, Machines and Power Conversions Research Laboratory, Lightweight Engineering Research Laboratory, and the Energy Storage Technology Research Laboratory.

They were welcomed by Mr. Waranyoo Phiwthongkham, Dr. Burin Kerdsup, Mr. Piyapong Premvaranon, and Dr. Manop Masomtob, who presented the latest research developments in each lab. On this occasion, Professor Dr. Sukit Limpijumnong, President of NSTDA, presented a commemorative gift to the President of the University of Phayao and reaffirmed NSTDA’s crucial role in driving national progress through science, technology, and innovation.
