2025.12.04 ENTEC, NSTDA Joins the UNIDO/ESCAP Meeting on “Battery Swapping Systems Compatibility in IMT”

On 4 December 2025, at the Thai–Italian Chamber of Commerce, UNIDO and ESCAP organized a meeting to discuss how to develop battery-swapping systems for electric motorcycles. Representatives from Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia joined the meeting under the IMT-GT cooperation. The meeting was part of a workshop organized by ADB/UNEP/ESCAP to support electric vehicle development in the Asia–Pacific region.

Dr. Pimpa Limthongkul, Director of the Energy Innovation Research Group at ENTEC, NSTDA, attended the meeting and presented Thailand’s research plan to develop standard battery packs for small electric vehicles. This work is done together with Standard Swapable Battery Consortium for Small E-Mobility. She also discussed opportunities to work with international partners to push these standards toward global acceptance.

Countries in the meeting showed strong interest in Thailand’s approach and may apply it in their own plans. This also shows that Thailand is ready to become a leader in electric vehicle use and production, moving toward becoming the EV hub of ASEAN.
