2025.12.04 ENTEC and UNEP visit Oyika batt swapping for E2W

On 4 December 2025, Dr. Peerawat Saisirirat, Leader of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Research Team (RENT), welcomed representatives from the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP), including Mr. Rob de Jong, Head of the UNEP Sustainable Mobility Unit, and Ms. Yeonju Jeong, Programme Management Officer. The delegation visited the Oyika Experience Centre (located at Bravo BKK, Rama IX) to observe the operation of electric motorcycles used in the public motorcycle taxi service, along with the battery-swapping system.

During the field visit, representative from The Stallions Co., Ltd. and Oyika (Thailand) Co., Ltd., the project’s research partner, together with participating motorcycle taxi drivers, provided information on the use of electric motorcycles in public motorcycle taxi services, membership models and service fees for the battery-swapping system, the current performance of electric motorcycles and future development plans for new models, as well as the advantages in terms of increased income compared with using conventional motorcycles.

The integration of electric motorcycles with a battery-swapping system represents a key pathway to enabling riders’ access to clean mobility technologies. It also offers an effective first- and last-mile solution that promotes seamless and sustainable connections to the public transport network and promotes sustainable urban mobility.
