2025.10.30 ENTEC NSTDA and GIZ Host SAF Working Group Milestone Meeting to Advance Sustainable Aviation Fuel Development in Thailand and the Region

The National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), organized the SAF Working Group Milestone Meeting to foster knowledge exchange and strengthen collaboration on the development of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in Thailand and across the region.

Dr. Dominika Kalinowska, Director of Transport Projects at GIZ Thailand/ASEAN, delivered the opening remarks, followed by a keynote address on “Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in Thailand” by Ms. Krittima Shoosanglertwijit, Director of the Strategy and Planning Division, Department of Energy Business (DOEB), Ministry of Energy. Ms. Krittima highlighting Thailand’s policy direction and strong commitment to supporting SAF as part of the nation’s decarbonization efforts in the aviation sector.

The meeting brought together experts from leading organizations to share insights and progress, including:

  • Dr. Nuwong Chollacoop, Director, Low Carbon Energy Research Group, ENTEC NSTDA, “SAF Activities in Thailand”
  • Mr. Arif Fajari, Regional Officer, Environment and Climate Change, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), “Key Updates on SAF in SEA”
  • Ms. Gloyta Nathalang, Senior Executive Vice President, Bangchak Corporation, “Transforming Waste into SAF by Bangchak Corporation”
  • Mr. Pahoong Thammaratdumrong, Vice President, EA Bio Innovation and Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Energy Absolute (EA), “Transforming Waste into SAF by Energy Absolute”
  • Dr. Ruethai Onbhuddha, Researcher, National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), “SAF Potential in Thailand”
  • Ms. Arianna Baldo, Programme Director, Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB), “Power-to-X (PtX) SAF Outlook in APAC”

The event also featured a panel discussion on “Decentralization to Centralization of Bio-resources to PtX Products in Thailand”, moderated by representatives from GIZ and ENTEC. The session explored strategies to bridge bio-resource management and PtX-based SAF production, a key pathway toward a low-carbon economy.

In closing, Mr. Tim Nees, H2Uppp Project Manager, GIZ Thailand, emphasized the importance of collaboration among government, private sector, and research institutions to establish a sustainable foundation for Thailand’s SAF ecosystem, encouraging continued investment and technology deployment to support the aviation sector’s decarbonization goals.

The SAF Working Group Milestone Meeting 2025 marks a significant step for Thailand and the region in strengthening multi-stakeholder cooperation, driving innovation in clean energy technologies, and advancing the transition toward a sustainable and low-carbon aviation industry.
